A tranquil heart and rotten bones + Proverbs 14:30 printable coloring page

Around our house, a lot of times we’re just surviving and trying to curb behavior, but sometimes we slow down and try to examine our hearts. We try to understand why we’re acting the way we, and then ask Jesus to adjust us.

We are currently talking about this verse, so I thought I’d share it with you today!

In this illustration, I wanted to show that a tranquil heart isn’t the result of tranquil situations. We’re always bombarded with things that will challenge our contentment. The heart in the picture is insulated against these things because of her focus. It’s upward, not on what’s going on around her.

Here are some questions you might ask about this verse:

  1. What makes a heart tranquil?
  2. What does a tranquil heart do for your body, your flesh?
  3. What is an example of envy in your life?
  4. What kind of things tempt you to envy?
  5. How does envy “rot the bones”? Do you think this is a physical or spiritual reality?
"A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh by envy rots the bones." Proverbs 14:30 Bible verse coloring page

An imagination for peace: Martin Luther King, Jr. on war + the artwork of Sister Corita Kent.

I'm thinking about the ways this administration is talking about the war in Iran, and asking whether we as Christians have lost our ability to imagine peace. I have pulled a selection of quotations about war from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.--from his 1968 book, Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community. I've also included this incredible screen print from the artist Corita Kent, who I admire for the ways she integrated her faith and social action.
